11 days extra shelf-life for mushrooms in Think: Fresh bags

Mushrooms in Think:Fresh shelf-life bags

An astonishing 11 days additional in-store shelf-life has been achieved in mushroom trials by an overseas customer using an innovative packaging film from Sirane - the same packaging film used for the Fresh: Shelf-Life Bags sold by Thinking-Cooking.

The mushrooms were packed in standard expanded polystyrene trays (EPS) which were then stretch-wrapped in Sira-Flex Resolve® film using an Omori machine - but the same results would be achievable by anyone buying mushrooms and just popping them in Fresh: Shelf-Life Bags themselves.

Jeremy Haydn-Davies, Sirane sales director, said: “This is once again further testament to the unique properties of Sira-Flex Resolve® and Fresh: Shelf-Life Bags and results like this keep coming in. These are the most impressive yet with mushrooms, and are tremendously exciting.

"The company in question, a large overseas customer, achieved an additional 11 days on what they had been achieving in store with their current packaging solution.

"We know Sira-Flex Resolve® has some remarkable properties, and we’ve had people running trials around the world, many of whom are now starting to share their results.

"Supermarket shelves are often full of discounted mushrooms, which are turning brown. Trials show Sira-Flex Resolve® can help retailers keep their mushrooms fresher for longer But it can also be used by customers who home who want are happy to buy the produce and then transfer it themselves into these amazing bags.

"It's not just mushrooms... transferring salads and fresh tomatoes, for example, can keep them fresher for much longer. The results are outstanding. Salads can often be utterly inedible within days of purchase, but not if you immediately transfer them into one of our bags.

"All you have to do is ensure the bag is sealed - a simple clothes peg will do the job, or tie a loose knot. So long as the bag is sealed, it will work."

Sirane’s Sira-Flex Resolve® - the packaging film used in Fresh: Shelf-Life Bags - is a unique film which has been developed to have the optimum balance between humidity control and O2 and CO2 permeability. It is perfect for keeping fresh produce fresher for longer.

The permeability is temperature dependant so that the perfect atmosphere is maintained inside the pack even if the storage temperature is variable.

Simon Balderson, Sirane’s managing director, said: “The results are remarkable. There is no condensation on the inside of the film and the product does not dry out.

“The package atmosphere is maintained with the optimum balance of atmospheric gases to prevent degradation. In simple terms, the food lasts longer.

“Shelf life extension of several days and more is achieved for many products. The film is suitable for all types of vegetables including salads as well as many types of fresh fruit.”

The film is a natural bio-polymer made from plants. It is sustainable and fully compostable. The permeability is controlled by the property of the film itself.

Very positive findings have also been reported in tomatoes, strawberries, green beans, salads and potatoes. Mr Haydn-Davies added: “We try to avoid making claims that Sira-Flex Resolve® will achieve a particular level of shelf-life, as there are so many factors at play - but we are convinced that users will be impressed by the results.

A perfect result for the Christmas turkey every time

Quality roasting bags perfect for Christmas dinner

THE turkey’s stuffed with gourmet stuffing, sealed in a bag which you can just put straight in the oven on Christmas morning. Instead of a dry, tasteless bird you’ve got succulent meat, beautifully crisp but with all the juices retained. Sounds good, right?

Cooking turkey can – for many people who aren’t Nigella or Delia – be a bit of a nightmare. Well, as an innovative food packaging solutions company we may just have the answer.

Thinking-Cooking's Roasting Bag for turkeys absorb the fat released during cooking, ensuring crisp, clean food. It is a top quality roasting bag made of nylon, perfect for cooking the perfect Christmas dinner - after all it is the one meal of the year where you want nothing to go wrong.

Mark Lingard, Marketing Manager, said: “The roasting bags for turkeys could truly come into their own at Christmas. Pop the turkey in the bag, tie it, and pierce the top... that's it. A turkey that browns beautifully, is crisp, retains all the flavours and doesn't dry out. You don't even need a baking tray.

"All we suggest is you cut the bag open for the last 20 minutes, allowing it to crisp to perfection.

Amazon customers back Thinking-Cooking range: more distributors wanted

The innovative Thinking-Cooking range – a new range of retail products aimed at making people’s lives easier in the kitchen - has been receiving great reviews on Amazon as well a number of other very positive comments sent directly via email. We're now looking for distributors and stockists interested in selling these proven products.

The range is selling well on both Amazon and via this site, and feedback has been incredibly positive - the products have gained an average 4.9 stars out of 5 across the range on Amazon... testament to how well the products have been received by the all-important end user..

The range has eight products – all items made by Sirane, European market leaders in food packaging development-to-manufacture – including microwave and oven steam cooking bags, roasting bags, grill liners, our popular slow-cooker liners and fresh produce bags for extending shelf-life.

Comments from Amazon customers on the Slow-Cooker Liner include "These are brilliant. I cooked a barbecue pulled pork recipe which turned out perfectly and it was so nice not having to worry about the cleaning after, i just waited for the bag to cool down then binned it, a quick rinse of the slow cooker and it was ready for the next meal. I doubt I'll ever use my slow cooker without a liner again," and "cleaning the slow cooker is normally a major chore but not with these babies!!!! Get some!!"

Meanwhile comments on the steam-cooking bags for oven or microwave include "Used in a microwave they cut down cooking times and yet the finished result is excellent. We have used them particularly for cooking fish and the result is very tender and tasty."

Jeremy Haydn-Davies, sales director, said: “Thinking-Cooking has brought a number of items which will truly make people’s life easier in the kitchen. Feedback has been very positive, give them a few months, and people will wonder how they ever did without.

“We’ve already gained some loyal customers online who are coming back again and again as they appreciate the quality of the products – the next step is to find more distributors.

“Our Thinking-Cooking range can save people time and money. Whether it’s reduced cooking time, less washing up or less wasted food, they impact positively in the kitchen.”

The full Thinking-Cooking range features the popular Si-bag Meal-Maker – a microwave or oven steam-cooking bag which has been sold direct to the public for a while – alongside the Baby & Toddler Meal-Pouch, Fat-Trap, Roasting Bags in two sizes, Potato-Bakers, fresh produce Shelf-Life Bags, Deli-Bags, and Slow-Cooker Liners.

“Whether you’re looking to steam cook food in a healthy yet convenient way, cook a tasty roast dinner with less hassle or make food last longer, Thinking-Cooking has something in its range for everyone,” added Jeremy, “they are all great products.”

The Si-bag Meal-Maker is an ovenable or microwaveable steam cooking bag, which seals in all the juices and flavours and allows healthy eating and fast food to be combined. The Baby & Toddler Meal Pouch will similarly allow small portions of healthy food to be cooked fast.

Roasting Bags are available for both turkeys and chickens, and will crisp up the bird perfectly, stop it from drying out, and significantly reduce the cooking time. They can be also be used for roasting other joints of meat, whole salmon or trout and many other things.

Fat-Traps can be used on oven-grills to soak up the fat – healthier food and less cleaning – while Slow-Cooker Liners will also cut down on the hated washing-up.

Fresh: Shelf-Life Bags and Fresh: Deli-Bags will offer significant shelf-life extension, with the Shelf-Life Bags – available in two sizes – and are suitable for all fresh produce.

Amazon feedback on our shelf-life bags includes "They are surprisingly effective. I have used them for cucumber which normally seems to go mushy very quickly, and also cut herbs from my greenhouse. Normally cut herbs go shrivelled very quickly. The herbs which would normally shrivel up after 24 hours lasted 3-4 days. I can't remember the length of time for the cucumber but it was definitely double what it would normally be before I get a dripping yucky puddle in my salad box."

Another review said: "Lettuce I will not normally eat after two days as it doesn't seem fresh but in the bag it stayed crisp and fresh, my mushrooms have been in the bag a week and haven't gone soft." Produce the bags are perfect for includes tomatoes, salads, mushrooms and herbs.

“We’re now looking for distributors, both in the UK and internationally, who are happy to take these great products into stores and new markets,” said Mark Lingard, marketing manager for Sirane, “so we’d love to hear from anyone interested. We know the products are great, and it is satisfying to know customers do too.”

Silver award from mums' site for Baby & Toddler pouch

We always knew the Baby & Toddler Meal-Pouch was fantastic - but now it is official.

The Thinking-Cooking Baby & Toddler Meal-Pouch has been awarded a silver award by The Real Mums Club - after receiving very positive feedback from the site's reviewers.

The Baby & Toddler Meal-Pouch is a steam-cooking bag for use in the oven or microwave, allowing parents to cook food for a small child that is healthy, tasty... and fast. Food steam cooks in its own juices, meaning no flavour or goodness is lost, and parents no exactly what has gone in their child's meal.

Reviewer Vicky Acosta Westcott wrote "The first time I used the pouch was to make Riley some apple. I did the normal of process of peeling and coring the apple and then just cut the apple into quarters. Placed in the pouch, sealed it and placed it in the microwave (the cooking instructions only suggest microwaving for fruit and vegetables) for two minutes. Once it had finished I took it out of the microwave and let stand for one minute. I then cut off the top of the bag and liquidized the apple as per normal. Simple as that!!! I really thought all my Christmases had come at once! It is so much easier than cooking in the saucepan with water.

"When eating the apple Riley really enjoyed it and I believe that because it was cooked in the pouch and not boiled in water it kept the flavour better than the ‘normal’ way. Riley quickly ate the apple (also wore some too!) and enjoyed every mouthful. I have also made Riley pear using the bags and once again it was so simple and was enjoyed.

"I was keen to try the bags in the oven and with something different than fruit to give a full review so I decided to cook a piece of chicken for myself.  Once again it was very simple. I placed the chicken in the pouch (As the packaging said you can add butter, sauces, herbs and spices I added some herbs), sealed it and placed on a baking tray in the oven for 20 minutes as instructed. The chicken cooked really well and was juicy and had so much flavour due to the pouch.

"In summary I suppose the big question is would I buy this product myself? YES without a doubt. It is quick, easy, saves on washing up, great for taking on holiday or away from home, keeps flavour in and is safe for our little ones. I will, without a doubt, buy the baby and toddler pouches myself and recommend to my friends."

A great review - although it is nothing new to us of course, we already knew they were great...
